Winter in the Wood [ORDER]
This album, assembled in 2003, contains
eighteen of Dick and Allan's favorite
English and Scottish songs from traditional
and contemporary sources. Unlike the
songs on their other albums, none
of the songs on "Winter in the
Woods" have nautical themes.
They were all digitally re-mastered
by Neil Jay Young at Canyon Studios
in Canyon, California, from original
recordings made in 1985 and 1990.
The scruffy creatures on the album
cover (photograph by Seattle's Art
Wolfe) bear no resemblance to Dick
and Allan.

Deepwater Songs [ORDER]
A collection of completely digitally
re-mastered sea songs from the three
earliest recordings by Dick and Allan.
The songs on this CD are forebitters
or forecastle songs that were sung
during leisure time. They are not
shanties, which were work songs sung
while raising the sails or working
the pumps or capstan. Dick and Allan
have performed these songs together
for over twenty years and provide
here a great example of this music
form.

Shanties and Sea Songs from Way
Out West [ORDER]
This 2000 recording is a compilation
of sea songs from the West Coast of
America. Dick and Carol are joined
by the sea music band Nauticus;
multi-talented instrumentalist, Greg
Pratt; bodhran player, Jamie Bell;
and singers, Star Ross and Denis Franklin.
Most are traditional sea songs about
coming and going to California. The
story of Edith Iglauer’s "Fishing
With John," written by Bill Gallaher
with music by Mike Jones, has become
one of The Holdstocks' most requested
songs.

San Francisco Shanties and Sea Songs
of California's Gold Rush [ORDER]
Dick and Carol joined with Tom
Murphey to produce this 1996 recording
of shanties and sea songs from California's
rich maritime heritage. Coming from
a number of scattered sources, these
songs tell about the days of sail
in the words of the sailors and fortune
seekers of the mid-19th century. The
excitement of the quest for gold,
the discomforts of the voyage, and
the many disappointments encountered
by the miners are eloquently included
in the verses to these songs.

Deepwater Shanties [ORDER]
This 1987 recording is a collection
of authentic traditional sea shanties,
with two shanties written by Burt
Lloyd for a special radio program
on Admiral Nelson. These work songs
of the sea were used to help lighten
the tremendous strain of raising or
taking in the sails and for heaving
a pawl on the capstan. Dick and Allan
sing a cappella and are joined by
a crew of their San Francisco singing
buddies.

Deepwater Ballads [ORDER]
This 1993 recording is a collection
of traditional songs about the days
of commercial sail and two recently
written songs that preserve the sea
heritage. These forecastle songs were
sung by sailors on board ship when
their watch was over. The songs are
sung by Dick and Allan in the traditional
a cappella style or to their own guitar
and mandolin accompaniment.

Silver in the Stubble [ORDER]
This 1989 collection of traditional
and contemporary songs from the British
Isles includes a great selection of
material that Dick and Allan have
performed regularly at folk music
clubs from coast to coast. You can
detect that they first sung these
songs in pubs. This album is a must
for the serious collector of English
and Scottish folk-music.

Holdstock and MacLeod [OUT
OF PRODUCTION]
This 1982 recording includes the
songs that Dick and Allan began singing
when they joined together in the mid
70’s. It includes some of the sea
songs that have become a major part
of their repertoire. Dick was able
to include one of his favorite songs
about Napoleon, and Allan does a stunning
job on the Bonnie Light Horseman.

of Newfoundland, Generations of Change,
Marching Through Rochester, Turning
Steel, Jock Stewart, Flash Company,
Lancashire Wedding Song, Punch and
Judy, Ragland Road, Napoleon's Farewell
